Work Experience
The opportunity for a young person to engage in a particular career that they hope to pursue after
their third level studies is an opportunity to see first-hand how the world of work operates. One
hundred and thirty innovative, enterprising and ambitious TY students undertook work experience
from February 10th – 14th, experience which reflected their career aspirations. Our transition year
students scaled many heights on their work experience placements. They volunteered to the needy,
catalogued books, audited accounts, administered prescriptions, work shadowed surgical procedures,
nursed the sick, taught the young, listened to the needy, protected the locality, massaged the aches,
wrote computer programs, designed houses, interior designed mansions, concocted medicines,
assisted vets, engineered the future, beautified the vain to name but a few. Many students also availed
of doing additional work experience over the mid-term break.
We are indebted to all the professionals who gave their time to our TY students. Students travelled
both locally and nationally and one student was fortunate to travel to the USA. Students were given
meaning to their career aspirations. For the foreseeable future there will be a large group of TY
students seeking work experience and we are indebted to professionals both locally and afar who so
willingly work with our students. Hopefully the TY students were inspired and gained a positive
insight to the working world of 2025, and this will aid them on a possible career direction for 2027!
