EVENTS & ACTIVITIES
Rather Be Reading visit All Saints’ NS
As part of the Rather Be Reading initiative, Transition Year students, accompanied by Ms Karen
Murphy, visited the local National School to share their love of reading. They spoke with pupils about
their favourite books, offering insights and recommendations with the aim of inspiring a lifelong
interest in reading among the children. The visit was highly engaging and encouraged younger
students to explore new stories and authors.
Cheque Presentation to Carnew Tidy Towns
Our Re-turn scheme for September raised €200 which we were
delighted to present to Majella Tyrrell of Pride in Carnew/ Carnew
Tidy Towns recently. The money will go directly into planting for the
spring boxes in the village.
Author Claire Keegan visit
Coláiste Bhríde recently welcomed acclaimed author Claire
Keegan to speak with sixth year students and their English
teachers, who are currently studying Small Things Like These.
Members of the Carnew Library book club also attended.
Keegan read selected passages from her work, answered
questions, and signed copies of the book for students.
She discussed the role of the novelist as “a critic of
society” and spoke about her development as a
writer, noting that “you can make something
happen on a page and make it believable.”
The visit proved inspiring and thoughtprovoking, and the school looks forward to
welcoming her again in the future.
