Guidance Update
As we approach the Christmas break, the Guidance Department at Coláiste Bhríde Carnew is pleased
to share a snapshot of a busy Þrst term. From September to December, students took part in a variety
of guidance and wellbeing activities supporting their learning, personal development, and future
planning.
For Sixth Years, including LCA, this term marked a key stage in preparing for life after school. In
September, they attended the Higher Options exhibition, and the World Skills showcase in the RDS,
gaining valuable insight into post-secondary options, apprenticeships, and career pathways.
Throughout the term, students engaged in CAO, Further Education, and apprenticeship preparation.
Workshops focused on the CAO process, course research, and entry requirements, while individual
guidance meetings helped students identify interests and plan progression routes. LCA students also
received tailored support on PLC courses, apprenticeships, and employment opportunities.
In Transition Year, wellbeing and academic support were also a key focus. Students took part in study
skills workshops, time-management sessions, and motivational seminars designed to help them
develop positive habits for the years ahead. One-to-one wellbeing and guidance meetings were
available throughout the term, ensuring students received personalised support whenever needed.
Visit by the Minister for Education, Ms. Helen McEntee
The Minister for Education, Ms. Helen McEntee,
visited Coláiste Bhríde in September for a short but
highly productive visit.
Minister McEntee, accompanied by local TD Mr.
Brian Brennan, met with the Senior Management
Team to review and discuss progress on the new
school building, which is shortly approaching the
tendering stage. A key focus of this discussion was
around the planning and groundworks to support
the development of a full-size 4G multi-purpose
pitch in the tender, and the signiÞcant beneÞts
such a facility would bring from a sporting, student
wellbeing, and wider community perspective.
Following the meeting, the Minister presented a Schools of Excellence award to last year’s Young
Social Innovators team in recognition of their successful campaign to reform the unfair grading bands
in Junior Cycle assessments.
She also ofÞcially launched this year’s Student Council elections.
The visit concluded with a Q&A session involving a cross-section of students. Topics raised included
Senior Cycle reform, progress on the new school building, the shortage of sporting facilities, and
government measures to address the challenges faced by third-level students in securing
accommodation.
